Your colleagues will include internationally recognized experts in machine learning research as well as highly experienced finance and technology professionals. As the General Counsel, you will report directly to the COO and work closely with the CEO, who will be your primary client. You will play a critical role in architecting and implementing the firms legal framework, strategy, and infrastructure. As the leader of our legal and compliance teams, you will manage a talented, accomplished, and experienced group of colleagues. This role is a means to make a difference: as a senior executive, you will marshal and enhance our business.

Responsibilities

    • Managing all legal aspects of the fund lifecycle, including launch (preparation of offering and governing documents), compliance, and operation (negotiation of material service provider contracts and side letter agreements with investors)
    • Working with multi-strategy, multi-asset class funds, both onshore and offshore (which includes both existing funds and upcoming fund launches)
    • Managing outside counsel across a variety of issues affecting the business (e.g., fund structuring, employment, tax, etc.)
    • Performing regulatory analysis and communicating updates (e.g., Advisers Act, Investment Company Act, Securities Act, Exchange Act and ERISA)
    • Managing legal aspects of the firms international expansion
    • Providing legal advice for general corporate matters (e.g., corporate governance, leases, tax, and employment-related issues)
    • Managing a team that includes two attorneys, two compliance professionals, and other colleagues

Requirements

    • Strong background in securities law, corporate law, and tax law
    • Proven success managing a legal and compliance team
    • Ability to balance creativity and corporate strategy with deep appreciation of the regulatory environment and understanding of fiduciary and contractual obligations
    • Expert knowledge of hedge funds, fund structuring, compliance, and applicable securities regulations
    • Solid understanding of securities, contract, employment, tax, and ERISA law
    • Familiarity with general corporate entity structuring and documentation Strong knowledge of international law
