Job Role Summary

This position is responsible for protecting the organization's legal interests, maintaining its operations within the scope established by law and providing risk management services. This involves providing legal advice on a variety of matters including the law governing health care institutions, and political subdivisions and municipal corporations for the State of Indiana, and the supervision of legal staff. This position assists the President & CEO with the work assignments of senior leaders throughout the organization.

Essential Duties

Advise top management provide legal advice on Corporation issues, particularly as to health care and governmental entities, which includes advice on compliance with regulations.

Assists President & CEO with strategic policy.

Counsels Headquarters and Marion County Public Health Department on employment and labor issues.

Provides advice and counsel to the President & CEO, and at times the Board of Trustees.

Drafts, reviews, and negotiates contracts.

Prepares reviews and communicates corporate policies and procedures.

Drafts governance documents.

Manages litigation and defends corporate interests.

Responsible for all legal functions of HHC.

Hires and supervises legal department staff.

Performs administrative responsibilities related to department including budget responsibility.

Coordinates risk management and control programs for the corporation, including purchasing of insurance coverage and management of self-insurance programs.

Prepares applications and timely assertion of claims.

Ensures compliance with coverage requirements and serves as liaison with brokers.

Serves on external boards as the Corporation representative

Education/Licensure/Certifications/Experience:

Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree

Admission to the Indiana bar

5 – 8 years of previous experience

Working Enviornment

Hybrid office environment.
