The Company invests in and works with some of the world's most pioneering companies to create value for our clients, through our private credit and early-stage venture capital strategies. We are an SEC-registered investment adviser with over $1 billion of assets under management. HCG is growing rapidly and we are looking for an attorney with extensive experience with transactions and corporate matters and an interest in finance, technology, and alternative investing.

We are seeking to hire a proactive and experiencedattorney with a strong corporate transactional background for our first in-house counsel. While Advisers Act compliance experience is a plus, it is not required.
You will be a pivotal part of HCG by managing all legal matters. Your contributions will make a meaningful impact on the success of the Company, and ultimately allow to execute its mission more efficiently and effectively. You will report directly to the Companys executive leadership, while working with a bright and motivated team that seeks to expand HCGs competitive advantage daily.
This is a senior level position.

Your Responsibilities

    • Provide strategic legal and business advice in support of the Companys objectives, including product and client growth trajectory, involving complex issues with wide-ranging impact.
    • Provide counsel in practice areas and advise Business Group Heads on risks and effects of legal decisions, with a strong understanding of Company-wide impacts.
    • Carefully consider, creatively think through, and soundly advise on novel and complex legal issues in a growing industry where precedent is continually developing.
    • Manage, supervise, and maintain outside counsel relationships to meet the Companys varied legal needs across competence areas (e.g., fund, tax, regulatory) and across jurisdictions (U.S. and non-U.S.), sourcing new relationships when needed.
    • Lead, with minimal legal supervision, the negotiation, preparation, and ongoing maintenance of legal agreements, including but not limited to: financing agreements, trust agreements, distribution agreements, securities purchase and servicing agreements, strategic partnership agreements (platforms and financial institutions),investment vehicle formation and related documentation,and a wide variety of vendor agreements for critical engagements and relationships.
    • Lead the effort to understand and mitigate legal and regulatory risks arising from current and proposed changes to laws, rulings, and regulations that may impact the Company and its clients.

Your Qualifications

    • JD degree with an active and valid state license (any U.S. jurisdiction).
    • Seven or more years of relevant corporate law experience with a major law firm and/or corporate legal department.
    • Legal experience with complex transactions; the financial services industry;banking regulations; and/or Fintech.
    • Demonstrated judgment, planning, decision-making and leadership skills as a collaborative member of the team.
    • Strong organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple parties, tasks, and deadlines simultaneously.
    • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills with an ability to address unfamiliar legal challenges.
    • Strong and effective communication, coordination, and presentation skills.
