General Counsel

The VA Claims Insider Team is looking for an experienced in-house legal professional (general counsel) who will provide part-time, creative and proactive legal guidance for our rapidly growing startup company.

The ideal candidate for this position has sound knowledge and understanding of applicable state and federal laws and regulations, and the ability to make prudent legal decisions in service of startups or niche service businesses. Preferred experience includes, but is not limited to, general business law, employment law, healthcare law, and civil litigation.

The right person for this role must have a strong entrepreneurial spirit, a desire to research, learn, collaborate, and contribute to a constantly evolving business model, and be motivated to interpret and apply state and federal legal concepts to help the company’s leaders make better business decisions.

This is a part-time position, 20+ hours per week. 100% work-from-home opportunity as we are a virtual company. No travel requirements. Ability to live and work on YOUR terms and get some balance back in your life!

Responsibilities:

Lead in an ever-changing and evolving environment of regulations, laws, standards, and compliance to include reviewing legal precedent and creating detailed risk analysis.

Effectively work with a variety of business stakeholders to develop and implement practices and standards that support innovation and growth while maintaining appropriate levels of risk.

Support and/or lead department projects and initiatives designed to improve legal service delivery within the businesses.

Review and ensure compliance with all federal, state and local government regulations as applicable to the business.

Assess, manage, and anticipate organizational risk and support the organization's operations with prompt, sound legal advice.

Provide advice and counsel on a wide variety of legal issues that include general business, contracts, labor, employment, healthcare and governmental issues.

Qualifications:

Law degree from ABA-accredited law school

Membership in good standing of any state bar

7+ years of relevant experience

Experience with Google G Suite, MS Word, and MS Excel, among others

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; strong interpersonal skills essential

Demonstrated ability to apply innovative problem-solving skills.

Demonstrated ability to exercise sound, practical, legal and business judgment while working autonomously.

Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment that supports company leadership and management.
