The General Counsel Function Group Manager is a senior management-level position responsible for accomplishing results through the management of a team or department to manage and direct day-to-day legal activities in coordination with the Legal team. The overall objective of this role is to provide legal support, advice and guidance across a broad range of practice areas.

Banking Capital Markets and Advisory Legal (BCMA Legal) supports the Investment Banking and Capital Markets businesses globally within Citi. Accordingly, BCMA Legal’s advice impacts both domestic and cross-border transactions. In this role, the attorney will be a member of the BCMA Legal team in New York, reporting directly to the head of NAM BCMA Legal.

Responsibilities:

Primary responsibility for all legal activity for LatAm BCMA (this includes coverage of the BCMA LatAm desk in NY as well as cross boarder and/or NY law transactions throughout LatAm).

Coordination of BCMA Legal and franchise issues with the regional LatAm Legal and business teams in Miami.

Opportunity to expand coordination role beyond BCMA to all ICG products.

Act as a strategic business partner and key advisor to key stakeholders

Set overall strategy, establishing direction for policy development and planning

Represent the firm both internally and externally with clients, government bodies or other organizations, in court, at depositions or at mediations, typically serving at the most senior level as part of the senior management team

Anticipate, evaluate and appropriately respond to developments in local and international environments impacting business policies and assist business to evolve to meet market place and client needs

Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.

Qualifications:

15+ years of experience

Experience in people management

Prior experience leading a team of lawyers

Comprehensive knowledge of local, state and federal laws and practices

Proven analytical and organizational skills

Consistently demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communication

Bar license in good standing to practice law

Education:

Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experience

Master's degree preferred
