The CommuniCare Family of Companies currently owns/manage numerous World-Class Nursing and Rehabilitation Centers, Specialty Care Centers and Assisted Living Communities throughout Ohio, Indiana, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland.

Since 1984, CommuniCare Health Services has provided superior, comprehensive management services for the development and management of adult living communities. We are looking to fill a key position, Chief Legal Officer with Long Term Care experience.

The Chief Legal Officer reports to the President and serves as the focal point for legal and compliance activities. The position ensures the Board, management and employees are in legal compliance with the rules and regulations of regulatory agencies, that company policy and procedures are being followed, and the behavior of the organization meets the company’s standard of conduct.

PURPOSE/BELIEF STATEMENT:

Provides strategic guidance, consultation, and support to the board and other members of upper management on a comprehensive range of legal issues involved in carrying out the mission of the CommuniCare organization.

This position is also responsible for developing and executing a strategic plan whose goal is to achieve for CommuniCare a "Culture of Compliance" where individuals and teams understand that the thing to do is the "right thing to do" and that it is the expected thing to do. The plan should be consistent with CommuniCare core values.

JOB EXPECTATIONS:

· Develops and leads corporate legal strategy to promote and protect the company's matters

· Develops and leads internal audit and corporate compliance programs

· Oversees delivery of legal services and resources to accomplish corporate goals, strategies and priorities

· Maintains proper corporate interactions with the relevant local, state and federal governmental bodies, legislatures and the community at large

· Advises the President and other senior corporate officers on legal issues

· Participates in the formulation of general management policy as a member of the executive management team

· Oversee contract management area including contracting policies and processes for ancillary services.

· Manages other members of the legal department

COMPETENCIES

· Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

· Broad knowledge of Federal and state healthcare laws, regulations, and standards.

· Maintenance of a working knowledge of relevant longterm care indusrty issues, laws, and regulations.

· Knowledge of internal and external audit processes, procedures, and risk management.

· Ability to develop and implement strategies and solutions.

· Ability to supervise investigations, analyze information and draw conclusions.

· Have integrity, be trustworthy, and have a high value to treating others with dignity, courtesy, and respect.

Job Requirements:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree required from an accredited U.S. law school.

• Minimum of ten (10) years related experience, preferably including experience in a corporate legal department. Health law experience required.
