About the Position

The General Counsel will provide legal guidance and advise management and operations on legal, compliance, and regulatory matters, as well as strategic initiatives. This role will handle a wide range of responsibilities.

Essential Functions

Principally responsible to provide legal guidance and counsel to the mortgage business and all business units across the company

Develop and negotiate contracts in various states following federal, state, and municipal regulations

Prepare, review, and renew all contracts, lease agreements, and any other legal documentation requested

Partner with members of the compliance department to provide comprehensive legal and compliance guidance and review

Manage the legal review of TILA, RESPA, TRID, and any other legal regulations as it pertains to the business in a mortgage and non-mortgage capacity

Assist with growth initiatives such as branch expansion

Respond to regulatory examinations in partnership with the compliance department

Conduct training, as appropriate, and maintain policies and procedures

Other duties as assigned

Competencies

Able to adhere to a work schedule including prompt and regular attendance including availability to work overtime

Excellent communication (verbal & written), analytical thinking skills, and customer service skills

Be obsessed with accuracy and representing the company ethically in all legal matters

Exhibit and practice professional and courteous behavior while interacting with both internal and external customers

Comfortable in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, constantly changing work environment often on a tight schedule

Education and Experience

J.D., licensed in Missouri

A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in a law firm or corporate legal department

Legal experience in residential lending preferred

Problem resolution expert with analytical skills and the ability to interact well with all organizational levels

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

The employee must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
