Since 2003 SAP has developed over 60 properties with an estimated value of more than $2B, through its funds and/or institutional investors. SAP, combined with its other entities is the 38th largest owner and manager of senior housing in the US, with over 6500 units in IL, AL, and MC. The operating arm of Spectrum (Spectrum Retirement Communities, LLC) is ranked in the top five senior living communities for excellence and operates in 10 states from Ohio to Oregon.

The Associate General Counsel will report to a Managing Partner (owner) and is responsible for advising on general real estate and finance matters and reviewing, drafting and negotiating a wide variety of contracts supporting Spectrum Acquisition Partners. This leadership role will partner with interior design, financing and construction teams in the organization to help evolve our real estate business, which includes acquisition, development, or disposition of the senior housing portfolio. This leader will become a trusted advisor to senior leadership and work with diverse groups of stakeholders to get results in a complex and fast paced environment.

Location: This candidate must live in the Denver, Colorado area.

Salary $180,000 - $270,000/ annually

Job Responsibilities:

Negotiate, draft, or review purchase and sale agreements, construction related contracts and financing documents.

Oversee legal issues including ongoing ventures, fund structure, property acquisitions, and investor relationships.

Manage outside counsel related to real estate development, balancing cost and effectiveness in the delivery of legal services.

Anticipate and mitigate potential legal problems within the SAP organization, providing relevant advice to senior leadership and stakeholders.

Collaborate and communicate effectively with Associate General Counsel – SRC regarding issues that impact the development and operations of the business.

Perform insurance legal management for construction loans, as needed.

Supervise paralegals and an attorney with regard to related functions for the SAP division.

Job Requirements:

J.D. from an ABA accredited law school.

Minimum of 10 years of practice in a law firm or in-house with a practice concentration in real estate, finance, and commercial areas preferred.

Must be admitted to practice law in the State of Colorado.

Attorney’s license must be current, active and in good standing.

Continuing education requirements must be current.

Detail-oriented, organized, efficient and resourceful with strong follow-through skills.

Excellent written, verbal and analytical skills, with an ability to communicate complex issues in a simple way and to orchestrate plans to resolve issues and mitigate risks.

Strong negotiation skills and ability to interact with legal and business leaders internally and externally.

Hands on, team-oriented approach with flexibility and positive attitude.

Superior contract drafting and verbal communication skills.

Acumen to effectively balance compliance with the law against business goals and initiatives.

Creative problem solver with the ability to quickly and accurately assess legal risks.

Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects with a customer service attitude.

Hard-working and a self-starter with the ability to operate independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.

Process-oriented with desire for constant improvement and development of best practices.

Strong integrity and commitment to ethics.

Must be able to communicate and function in an interdisciplinary team.
