Position overview

allnex is seeking an in-house General Counsel for the Americas region. This position will be based in Alpharetta, GA and will have a direct reporting line to the Senior Vice President & General Counsel.

As a key member of the Americas leadership team, the General Counsel for the Americas will provide legal counsel and advice regarding all allnex business activities in the region, including drafting sales and procurement contracts, employment matters, dispute resolution, international trade and compliance and ethics.

Outside the US allnex has major operations in Brazil and is active in most countries in LATAM and Canada. The General Counsel Americas is expected to provide legal services to the management teams in these affiliates and coordinate outside counsel to the extend needed.

Responsibilities

Provide efficient delivery of legal counsel, advice and guidance responsive and supportive of Allnex’s business objectives and operations in the Americas.

Develop strong, trusted relationships with business partners and external customers.

Learn the drivers for the business to identify opportunities to improve customer relations and to advance our growth and protect our market positions.

Ensure collaboration with internal functions (such as IP, HR, Finance, Tax, risk management, export compliance, operations, SHE) to achieve business objectives.

Ensure that the business maintains high standards of ethical conduct and regulatory compliance.

Review contracts to identify risks (including, but not limited to, financial, intellectual property, operational, penalties, warranties, legal liabilities, etc.) and achieve successful negotiated outcomes with customers and suppliers.

Educate the sales force and business management in understanding risks and liabilities in contract terms and conditions, both formally and informally.

Assess any claims filed against or on behalf of the company, working with the appropriate business or function to define a strategy and implement such.

Required skills and experience

Legal degree required (from a highly regarded US university).

Fluent capability of the English language in writing and speaking. Skills in Spanish would be helpful.

Minimum 5 years of legal experience required. Preferably minimum 1 year corporate “in-house” experience.

Experience in managing outside counsel, contractors and consultants.

Compliance, audit and/or regulatory experience, preferably in an international environment.

Hands-on; self-starter; team-player.

Strong problem-solving skills, ability to identify, evaluate (risk/reward balance) and resolve legal issues within the context of the business strategy and objectives.

Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to effectively communicate with customers and suppliers as well as governmental organizations and authorities, using influence and negotiation skills to accomplish results.

Must have a demonstrated ability to prioritize and meet critical deadlines in a fast paced matrix work environment.

Possess strong business instinct, sound judgment and service orientation.

Travel required, mainly domestically (US) and occasionally internationally (LATAM region and Europe) - approximately 20 % of the time.
