This is an exciting and rare opportunity for a seasoned healthcare attorney to join the global leader in telehealth in a position with substantial responsibility. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, with a dotted line to the President – U.S. Group Health, Vice President & General Counsel – U.S. Group Health (USGH) is principally or jointly responsible for all legal matters that arise pertaining to U.S. Group Health, Teladoc Health’s largest business channel.

This is a “player-coach” role, directly providing attorney services to U.S. Group Health, but also managing a small team (presently consisting of two experienced attorneys and a senior paralegal). The ideal candidate for this position must have the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, growing, exciting environment. In addition, the candidate must have flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and organizational needs.

Responsibilities

Operate as senior advisor to U.S. Group Health while working closely across internal teams to manage transaction processes, achieve desired business outcomes, and minimize legal risk.

Draft, revise and negotiate various business agreements with health plans (fully insured and self-funded), including marketing and production agreements, business growth, and distribution deals.

Provide advice regarding medical-legal matters, including informed consent, privacy, disclosures to state and federal agencies, and regulatory requirements.

Utilize strong legal and business acumen required of an individual at the most senior level of an organization to work effectively to integrate and coordinate the key strategic initiatives and business unit operations of U.S. Group Health.

Manage outside counsel and outside legal expenses related to U.S. Group Health

Manage a team of attorneys and legal professionals who provide counsel, contract support, and generalist advice to the business channel.

Periodic travel (less than 25%)

Position can be performed remotely, through geographical focal points are Boston, New York City, Chicago, and Dallas. Physical proximity to one of these locations is preferred, though not required.

Candidate Profile

Law degree from a major U.S. law school required with active license to practice law in one of the following states: New York; Illinois; California; or Texas.

10+ years of relevant business and health care legal experience required. Experience with employment law, government contracting, advertising law, intellectual property, and real property is highly desirable.

In-house counsel experience desirable.

Extensive knowledge of corporate transaction and contracting processes, including reviewing, drafting, revising, negotiating, and finalizing contracts and structural deal terms.

Strong analytical, writing, oral communication, research, investigatory, advocacy, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Vision and experience in strategic initiatives beyond tactical implementation, including balancing legal and business needs while assessing appropriate risk to make tough decisions.
