Committee of 100 (C100) is seeking a full-time staff General Counsel. The General Counsel will provide the leadership team with strategic legal advice across a wide range of matters encompassing all functions. The General Counsel will also partner with outside Counsel as it relates to litigation matters relating to the Asian American community. This role will play an important role in shaping the legal, and policy strategies for C100. This position will report directly to the President and does not manage others.

What you will do:

Provide guidance and serve as a resource for internal team on legal matters, including, non-profit, employment, marketing and advertising, promotions, public policy initiatives, programs, and compliance matters

Partner closely with outside counsel to litigate and advocate for civil and human rights on behalf of Chinese Americans/Asian Americans (50-75% of time)

Manage contracts across cross functional business verticals including but not limited to: real estate, marketing, creative, technology, human resources, etc.

Board interactions, as necessary

Work with internal team to develop creative and proactive solutions to legal issues

Structure, draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts, including, but not limited to, collaboration, event production, vendor, sponsorship, technology, media, and various other documents relevant to the diverse activities and operations of C100

Help ensure compliance with IRS non-profit laws and governance best practices.

Seek opportunities to improve forms, processes and systems.

Qualifications:

J.D. from an accredited institution and admitted to practice law in New York

5-7+ years of relevant experience, with at least two years in a leadership role

Litigation experience in the Civil Rights arena, in particular in relations to US Gov

Experience and working knowledge from an AAPI or Chinese American Community Based Organization; Passion for AAPI community needs and areas of support

Strategic thinker with the ability to distill complex legal matters into effective and practical business solutions balancing an appropriate level of risk

Enjoys working cross functionally and collaborating with a diverse range of functions

Excellent communicator

Proactive in anticipating and addressing business needs

Results-driven, execution focused

Ability to work independently as sole member of Legal function

Social services or similar experience

Experience in the NYC nonprofit sector

The ideal candidate has broad legal experience, is detail-oriented, has high level of integrity, and is a compassionate and business-minded leader.

Big Pluses:

Bilingual in English & Mandarin (fluency writing, reading and speaking)
