BlueRock Therapeutics is seeking a highly skilled and motivated attorney, strong cultural leader, and strategic business partner to join its team as General Counsel. The General Counsel will have primary responsibility for the general legal affairs of the company, with a focus on business development, licensing and other strategic transactions, intellectual property, corporate law matters, and contracts. The General Counsel will also lead, manage, and develop the BlueRock legal department.

Responsibilities of the role will include the following:

Lead and manage the Company’s legal function to ensure business objectives are met by providing hands-on solution-oriented advice regarding all legal, contractual, IP, and compliance matters.

Provide excellent legal advice and work product and manage and develop the team to maintain its positive culture and alignment with the business.

Lead interaction with external legal counsel on all legal matters including IP, transactional, and corporate.

Oversee the management of the IP portfolio, including current and future licenses, and play key a leadership role in developing and implementing IP strategy.

Serve as part of the Operational Leadership Team providing both legal and business counsel and creative problem-solving skills to achieve major business objectives of the company.

Develop and implement policies and training to ensure company’s compliance with applicable laws.

Collaborate with the business development team to negotiate and execute strategic collaborations and license agreements for in-licensed technology and research.

Advise the Company on contract interpretation, dispute resolution, IP ownership, litigation, new laws that impact Company and clearly articulate risk and provide guidance on a path forward to address potential risks.

Provide strong leadership, people management, team development and cultural skills.

Requirements

J.D. from a national law school and admission to at least one state bar in the United States.

Fifteen plus years of corporate and IP transactional legal experience, including law firm training and in-house experience in roles of increasing responsibility representing biopharmaceutical clients.

A proven track record of successfully leading, managing, developing, and retaining outstanding legal talent.

Prior experience contributing to business development activities such as in-licensing, out-licensing, mergers and acquisitions and partnering agreements.

Experience in stem cell biology, immunology, cell therapy, and/or gene editing is highly preferred.

Advanced scientific degree not required, but would be preferred.

Experience supporting therapeutics and patent life cycle management is preferred.

Experience and understanding of international IP and corporate legal matters a plus.
