About the Team:

The Quora legal team is a highly collaborative, talented group of individuals who partner closely with the product and business teams to support the company’s scaled growth. The product is currently available in 24 languages and localized in more than 30 countries worldwide. As a member of the legal team, you will have the opportunity to shape the direction and growth of a best-in-class legal team.

About the Role:

Quora is seeking a seasoned professional to lead our legal team as we continue to grow our global business. We are looking for someone who has extensive legal strategy and execution experience within a fast-growing technology company, as well as strong business judgment, operational experience, and values alignment. The ideal candidate is a flexible, positive, communicative team player/coach and has outstanding interpersonal skills. You have a strong ability to work with a fast-paced team, cross-functionally, and collaboratively with a focus on exceptional customer service.

In this role, you will be responsible for managing and scaling the day-to-day legal and various administrative functions at Quora over time, serving as both an important leader within Quora as well as a strong ambassador for the company externally. This position will report to Quora’s VP of Finance and will be a critical member of the management team as the company scales over time.

Responsibilities:

Corporate Legal Counsel:

Key advisor and leader supporting all major business transactions, business development partnerships, and customer and other operational contracts.

Managing Quora’s overall Intellectual Property portfolio strategy and execution.

Managing all areas of employment law including immigration.

Advising on legal aspects of the company’s financing strategy and execution over time.

Leading, assessing, and advising on current and future business structures and legal/tax entities and structures.

Compliance:

Participate in the definition and development of corporate policies, procedures, and programs and provide continuing counsel and guidance on legal implications of these matters.

Assume ultimate responsibility for ensuring that Quora conducts its business in compliance with applicable SEC, et. al. laws and regulations including as Quora prepares to go and is public.

Identify proactive solutions (while applying pragmatic business judgment) that will eliminate or mitigate risk; manage Quora’s insurance portfolio.

Operations:

Key advisor on product policy and terms of service.

Key member leading all fraud, security, and user operations efforts.

Key advisor to all executives on managing their operations and teams.

Leadership within the legal team:

Structure and manage the company’s internal legal function and staff.

Selection, retention, management, and evaluation of all outside counsel.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ability to be available for meetings and impromptu communication during Quora's "coordination hours" (Mon-Fri: 9am-3pm Pacific Time). Learn why here

J.D. and member in good standing of the State Bar for the US state in which you reside

8+ years of legal practice including 3+ years of in-house, corporate legal experience

4+ years of management experience, including 2+ years of people management

Demonstrated transactions experience, partnership nurturing, negotiation experience, and due diligence skills.

Exceptional problem solver, clear strategic thinker, and proven ability to frame complex legal, compliance, and regulatory issues for non-experts

High level of detail orientation, strong prioritization skills, and a high sense of urgency.

Indomitable integrity and strong work ethic

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in a technical, finance, or business discipline

Knowledge about content regulations, trademark and copyright laws, and privacy regulations, along with dispute resolution experience

Global expansion experience for a platform
