Where we work

Mavrck is based in Boston, MA and hires employees remotely across the United States. Later is based in Vancouver, BC, with hub cities in Toronto, ON, and London, UK.

In this role, you'll get to:

As the Leader of the Legal department, you will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and lead the charge with regard to building out all aspects of the team, processes, reporting and risk mitigation ensuring that our company operates at the highest standards of legal compliance and ethical behaviour. You will not only oversee all legal operations, including contract drafting and review, corporate governance, risk management, and compliance but also serve as the trusted advisor to the senior management.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and execute legal policies that align and inform with the company's goals & strategic direction. You will also stay ahead of the curve by staying informed of changes in relevant laws and regulations and imparting that knowledge to the rest of the company through ongoing training and education.

When the need arises, you will confidently represent the company in legal matters and ensure that our interests are protected. This role requires a highly strategic thinker who can easily navigate complex legal & business issues and deliver practical solutions to support the company's success.

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee all legal activities, including contract drafting and review, employment law, corporate governance, risk management, and compliance
  • Advise senior management on legal and regulatory issues and provide strategic legal guidance on business matters
  • Negotiate and draft a wide range of contracts, including employment agreements, software license agreements, service agreements, and other commercial contracts
  • Stay current on changes in applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards, and provide ongoing training and education to the company and its employees
  • Represent the company in legal matters, as necessary
  • Manage outside counsel
  • Manage the legal budget
  • Support legal aspects of risk management strategies with particular concern for product safety, regulatory and operational, compliance, cyber security, and organizational resilience/redundancy initiatives.
  • Responsible for ensuring the organization's compliance with relevant regulations. Develop and implement policies and procedures to comply with legislation, as well as develop and maintain communication materials and training programs for employees
  • Develop in-depth technical knowledge and understanding of product offerings
  • Provide general legal support for corporate, commercial, and human resources/employment matters

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from an accredited law school and admitted to practice law in the US
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience practicing law in-house in a fast-paced, high-growth global technology company is preferred
  • Proven track record in building an internal legal function based on the needs of the business.
  • Strong understanding and extensive experience with corporate law, including the ability to advise and provide guidance on various corporate matters.
  • Significant experience with employment law, including knowledge of applicable legislation, regulations, and best practices including equity-based compensation
  • Familiarity with GDPR and other relevant data privacy laws and regulations
  • Excellent working knowledge of Contract Law, and Intellectual Property Law in the US and Canada and experience with SaaS MSAs and other product-related contracts
  • Experience managing legal budget
  • M&A Experience
  • Strong negotiation and drafting skills, with experience negotiating and drafting complex contracts
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to understand and interpret complex legal issues and provide practical solutions
  • The ability to problem-solve new issues and communicate effectively while working collaboratively within cross-functional teams and levels within the organization
