Key Role Responsibilities - Core

COUNSEL FAMILY – CORE

Provides legal support on routine matters to the East Region.

Reviews project procurement documents and assists with proposal legal review.

Prepares draft prime contracts and subcontracts with assistance of the project team.

Provides counsel and guidance regarding transactions, programs, policies and procedures.

Researches and prepares appropriate and effective draft legal opinions, memoranda, and other documents.

Interprets laws, rulings, and regulations for relevance and to help the Company prepare clear and effective policies and practices to minimize legal risk.

Assists with management of claims and litigation. Provides assistance to gather and prepare evidence to formulate defense or to initiate legal actions.

Implements litigation hold memoranda.

Leads, supports and promotes a culture of inclusion and diversity within JE Dunn.

Understands JE Dunn’s policy of non-discrimination and ensures positive, proactive implementation throughout the organization.

Key Role Responsibilities - Additional Core

REGIONAL GENERAL COUNSEL

In addition, this position will be responsible for the following:

Serves as key lawyer/legal advisor on all major regional business transactions for the East Region, including contracts and joint ventures.

Leads and manages the region’s internal legal function and staff including, but not limited to, contract management, claim management, and compliance and governance.

Selects, retains, manages and evaluates all outside counsel.

Assists in the representation of the organization in court, before government agencies, in mediation, or other legal proceedings.

Participates in contract negotiations and reviews and approves contract forms and documents.

Reviews and approves advertising copy and public statements from a legal standpoint.

Oversees legal research efforts and prepares appropriate and effective legal opinions, memoranda, and other documents.

Advises on legal aspects of the region’s financing, including assessing and advising on current and future business structures and legal entities.

Manages and oversees the collection and preparation of evidence to formulate defense or to initiate legal actions.

Assumes an influential leadership role in community and industry relationship building through networking, representing the organization on boards and serving as the face of the organization to help promote the interests of the Company.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to perform work accurately, completely and in a timely manner.

Communication skills, verbal and written - Advanced.

Ability to prepare and conduct effective presentations - Advanced.

Ability to follow-up on inquiries in a timely manner.

Proficiency in MS Office - Intermediate.

Legal writing skills - Advanced.

Ability to perform legal research - Advanced.

Thorough knowledge of MBE (Minority Business Enterprise), WBE (Women’s Business Enterprise), and SBA (Small Business Administration) regulations.

Thorough knowledge of corporate risk management policies.

Ability to understand business accounting principles - Intermediate.

Proficiency in required construction technology.

Ability to provide performance management feedback and complete evaluations.

Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally - Advanced.

Education

Doctorate Degree - Juris Doctor (Required).

In lieu of the above requirements, equivalent relevant experience will be considered.

Experience

10+ years legal experience, practicing construction law (Required).

7+ years people management experience (Preferred).

5+ years financial management experience (Preferred).

Construction litigation with large law firm (Preferred).

In lieu of the above requirements, experience in a related practice, such as real estate, may be considered.
