General Legal Counsel

Position Description:

AVA’s General Counsel role will optimize and manage all legal aspects that affect the current and future success of the project.

AVA Labs makes it simple to launch finance applications using blockchain technology–with highly scalable and efficient networks, customizable public and private blockchains, the capability to create any digital asset, and more. We are empowering people to build an open, simple, and democratic internet of finance.

This is an exciting opportunity for an entrepreneurial legal expert to build out an in-house legal team, develop strategies for making compliance a business enabler, manage external law firms, and advise on key challenges facing the most exciting sector of financial services.

This individual will be based in the New York City office.

Responsibilities:

Review and approve public materials to ensure regulatory complianceDraft corporate documents for company initiatives and dealsReview and draft agreements for business partnerships Continuously research and master the latest legal frameworks/comments from regulatory bodiesAdvise teams ranging from engineering, product, and other business teams on a variety of legal topics, including privacy, financial products and markets, consumer protection, marketing, intellectual property security, and the general framework for developer ecosystems and consumer-facing platforms

What You'll Bring:

Undergraduate and law degrees; active membership in at least one U.S. state bar10+ years of experience, including at least 3 years in-house experience at a fintech firmExperience managing other attorneys, legal team members, and building a legal budget.Passion and experience with blockchain technology and desire to be on the cutting edge of the ecosystem.Exemplary personal and professional integrity and business ethics. Exercises discretion and maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex compliance and regulatory issues to other stakeholders and teams in a clear and concise way.
