Mobis Technical Center of North America is engaged in various local R&D activities with regard to ADAS & autonomous driving systems, IVI and chassis (braking and steering). It is developing products and new technologies customized for the North American market, such as DDREM, which automatically moves the vehicle to a safe place in the event that the driver falls asleep at the wheel when on the highway, and eDIH, electronic parking brakes for large pickup trucks.

Objective

As General Counsel, you will act as the primary legal advisor. A successful candidate will primarily be responsible for supporting the regional business groups in review of commercial and procurement contracts, working with plant operations personnel on legal matters that arise through the ordinary course of business and assist in resolving supplier disputes and will participate in managing complex commercial transactions. Additionally, the General Counsel will be primarily responsible for tracking and monitoring service of process, department legal billing and cost tracking and reporting. Finally, the General Counsel may also be called upon to manage discovery for disputes or performing due diligence in coordination with external counsel. The right candidate will be open to learning new legal disciplines and will have the opportunity to grow with the position to assume new responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

The General Counsel duties will include Negotiating, drafting, and reviewing a broad range of commercial contracts; counseling business clients on commercial matters; ensuring compliance with applicable laws; support of investments and related commercial contracts; anticipating and advising on legal risks and risk mitigation strategies; and providing training on legal issues and compliance topics.

The position will support various capabilities of the business including strategic sourcing and procurement, sales, engineering, development and others in key initiatives of business transformation.

Provides advise and counsel in support of a variety of routine transactional matters, including reviewing, drafting and negotiating non-disclosures or other contracts in support of the organization.

Manages a variety of moderately complex legal matters and projects. Experience in the following areas: U.S. export control laws; litigation management; corporate governance; compliance as an enterprise function; and intellectual property.

Develops and maintains professional relationships and directly interacts with internal and external customers, and/or affiliates to build trust and create effective channels of communication to facilitate the management and resolution of issues.

Acts as an internal consultant and liaison between outside agencies/counsels and internal customers regarding legal matters.

Conducts legal research and drafts significant corporate legal documents.

Maintains a current knowledge of those areas of the law that pertain to the ongoing needs of the organization. Develops recommendations to accommodate developments in the law that may have a material effect on the organization.

Represents and/or assists in representing the organization in legal disputes and transactions.

Experience Level

10+ Years of experience in the automotive industry

Educational Requirement

Juris Doctorate required from a reputable law school

Additional Experiences

Current license to practice law in any jurisdiction within the United States, a member of a state bar in good standing, preferably in Michigan.

Experience in both a law firm and corporate in-house environment preferred.
