What Success Looks Like:

    • Fair/favorable contracts in place between Veyo and its customers, providers (3PO/IDPs), vendors and other stakeholders.
    • Minimal level of litigation, lawsuits, or damages.
    • Well communicated and well balanced level of exposure that clearly understands business needs and objectives.
    • Thorough compliance and risk mitigation programs in place.
    • Extremely high compliance record as evidenced by both internal and external audits. Accreditation maintained and in good standing with all customers.
    • Proactive strategies/positions in place for all reasonably anticipated legal threats.
    • Well researched plans executed to achieve credentials/certifications and licensing for all existing and new lines of business within diverse geographies.
    • All insurance/risk effectively managed, including relationships with insurers and brokers. Low claims exposure and payout.

Responsibilities:

    • Seek out and understand industry dynamics and trends, company positioning, adjacent segments and opportunities, in order to be a key contributor to short and long term strategic decision making and planning.
    • Partner with the CEO to align on the appropriate balance of exposure/risk for the business. Communicate and constantly reassess exposure with the executive team given rapid growth goals coupled with the changing landscape of healthcare.
    • Proactively anticipate emerging areas of risk for Veyo and develop legal positions, strategies and policies to reduce liability. Keep the executive team well informed of risks, changes, and mitigation strategies.
    • Study credentialing, certification, and licensing requirements for all existing and prospective geographies for Veyo’s existing NEMT business and ensure smooth execution of required steps in order to launch field operations in a timely manner.
    • Research credentialing, certification, and licensing requirements for proposed new lines of business currently being considered, and work with CRO and CEO to incorporate legal and compliance requirements into business plans.
    • Refine, define, and oversee Fraud Waste and Abuse programs. Implement training,audits, potential SIU team. Manage requests from customers; clawback and collection efforts.
    • Keep abreast of changing rideshare rules and legislative trends. Advise the company on feasibility and risks based on legal, regulatory, federal, state, and local landscapes, and advise on strategy to mitigate barriers.
    • Provide sage legal advice to the executive team and other internal teams on items pertaining to Veyo business including product compliance, intellectual property and employment law.
    • Create and manage a contract management platform that drives internal efficiencies and illustrates compliance for external audits. Advise the organization on other technologies and impacts such as cyber governance and digital risk management
    • Oversee internal audits (credentialing, insurance, etc.) and create accountability for the diverse function to address gaps and risks. Ensure the executive team is kept up to date on findings and corrective actions.
    • Manage procedures for new contracts, amendments, SOWs, contract adherence, leases, vendor agreements, CAPS, NDAs, BAAs, etc.
    • Act as a liaison with external counsel when necessary while minimizing external billable hours.
    • Build a high performing team to own and manage: ○ Complete insurance/risk strategy and claims with low cost per mile. ○ Comprehensive compliance program with high audit success rate ○ Relevant industry accreditations
    • Negotiate, craft, and enforce contracts between Veyo and its customers, vendors, and providers. Ensure that contracts are fair/favorable, developed in partnership with internal business owners, and in keeping with Veyo’s business objectives and capabilities.
    • Effective management of disputes and lawsuits.

Qualifications:

    • Legal Degree Required; Member in Good Standing with at least one State Bar preferred
    • Minimum 8 years of experience within a law firm or corporate legal department
    • Must possess a deep understanding and knowledge of healthcare compliance, regulations, laws, and standards often gained by employment in a healthcare organization or partnering with healthcare companies with demonstrated experience ensuring complete contractual and regulatory compliance
    • Experience researching, building, and launching a strategic legal and regulatory strategy around new lines of business in healthcare
    • Experience working with, and presenting to, top level executives and a Board of Directors
    • Detail oriented, with strong analytical and organizational skills; demonstrated ability to meet strict timelines
    • Able to exercise sound judgment and initiative
    • Strong analytical, organizational, and coordination skills
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills required
    • Self-starter: ability to work independently with minimal supervision
    • Able to travel up to 10%
