The Role

CapCenter seeks a seasoned hands-on legal professional who is a results-oriented, self-directed, tactical and a strategic advocate. The General Counsel will assist senior management in developing and implementing legal and business strategies for the company. We are seeking an individual who can effectively generate ideas and implement programs that achieve strategic and tactical objectives while managing cost of resources. The ideal candidate is analytical and creative, as well as an experienced and effective leader and communicator who builds and fosters strong relationships through trust and collaboration at all levels of the organization. Flexibility is a must; we are a fast-paced and a rapidly growing company with residential lending, realty brokerage and closing operations.

Responsibilities

Participate in the definition, development and ongoing monitoring of company policies, procedures and programs and provide continuing counsel and guidance on legal matters and legal implications.

Ensure that the various functional divisions conduct business in compliance with all applicable laws and contract requirements.

Provide general legal services, including negotiating, drafting and implementing contracts.

Manage all regulatory monitoring and examinations in conjunction with mortgage counsel.

Create, and update and audit compliance with all company-wide policies and procedures.

Identify significant legal exposures and emerging compliance and business trends and issues.

Serve as a partner with other members of senior management to create and execute strategic initiatives.

Qualifications:

Education: JD from an accredited law school; member in good standing of Virginia and/or North Carolina State Bar.

Experience: 10+ years of corporate legal or law firm experience with demonstrated skills in a mortgage lending/real estate environment and regulatory compliance in the area of consumer finance.

Highest level of personal integrity and character.

Strong and dynamic leadership, organizational, administrative and project management skills.

Creative problem-solving skills; able to look for new solutions.

Strong listening and communication skills (written, verbal and interpersonal) to effectively communicate with all levels within the company.

Flexible and resilient, comfortable with creating order from ambiguity and adaptable to changing environments.

Hands-on problem- solver.

Self-directed; knows what needs to be done and operates with a sense of urgency, focus and discipline.
