National Salvage & Service Corp. is looking for a General Counsel to join its growing company. The position is an exciting opportunity to serve as a trusted advisor on a multitude of legal issues. It is based at our Bloomington, Indiana, headquarters. The successful candidate is an experienced partner to HR and business managers, and will provide sound legal advice and counseling across a variety of industries, including railroads, large-scale demolition, and utility industry. This position requires close collaboration and partnership with internal stakeholders in HR, the business units, with a significant focus on general legal matters, and labor and employment issues.

DUTIES, TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Advise HR professionals and business managers regarding employment-related matters under US federal, state, and local laws (g., compliance with Title VII, ADAAA, FLSA, FMLA and state/local sick leave laws, FCRA, multistate drug testing issues; enforcement of restrictive covenants, etc.).

Review and revise internal policies and procedures to ensure multi-jurisdictional regulatory compliance

Partner with HR to develop and deliver proactive training to business leaders on a wide variety of employment law matters.

Provide legal representation and/or oversee outside counsel regarding agency administrative charges, audits, and investigations (e.g., EEOC, DOL, OSHA and state/local agencies)

Respond to attorney letters, complaints and claims involving employment and labor related concerns.

Advise HR and assist negotiating employment-related documents including separation agreements and restrictive covenants.

Participate in M&A due diligence in support of the HR teams, providing perspectives and guidance.

Support HR professionals on compensation, benefits, ERISA and immigration matters.

Oversee all legal matters and advise the CEO and leadership team on organization strategy and development and operations.

Provide day-to-day legal support.

Prepare and review contracts, MOUs, licenses, leases, and other complex agreements in highly-regulated industries.

Identify and mitigate legal risk impacting organization decisions.

Maintain expertise in laws and regulations pertaining to the organization and anticipate impact on organization from legislative and regulatory changes.

Protect the organization from undue exposure, liability, and significant financial loss, as well as the organization’s reputation, resources, programs and products.

Develop and implement innovative methods for reducing legal spend.

Advise company leaders on litigation matters involving the organization, including coordination with outside counsel.

Minimum Requirements

Must have J.D. from ABA accredited law school.

Minimum three years’ experience.
