OhmConnect (www.ohmconnect.com) is an energy technology, control, and services company that provides demand response services to residential and small commercial retail electric customers. OhmConnect’s software service notifies households and businesses of impending DR events, including taking direct control of devices and appliances, and pays them for their measured energy reductions. We are currently operating in Australia and California (CAISO), but are planning expansion into other North American markets.

What you will do

Leadership

Serve as key advisor and counsel to the board of directors and executive management

Work closely with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team on high-level, strategic transactions

Partner with internal and external stakeholders to create practical strategies aimed at supporting long-term business objectives while minimizing exposure to legal liability

Help stakeholders understand the risks and consequences of a given situation, effectively communicate the consequences, and develop alternatives to manage identified risks

Provide legal advice to management on a wide range of strategic and operational issues

Stay current with legal developments, best practices, industry policy initiatives, and pending legislation and assist company management in implementing appropriate policies and procedures

Monitor and advise on regulatory initiatives and pending legislation

Legal & Compliance Management

Research, review, interpret, and provide counsel on relevant CPUC, CEC, California Independent System Operator (CAISO), ERCOT, and FERC tariffs and rules. Expand this purview to new markets as needed.

Manage relationships with key regulators and oversee comprehensive policies and programs to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations

Identify and analyze legal issues, draft key documents, present clear recommendations and ensure legal compliance

Support negotiations of strategic transactions

Appropriately allocate and manage work among internal and external resources in a risk-based, cost-effective manner. Manage department budget for internal and external costs

Oversee risk management and insurance programs, credit facilities, and energy services and related agreements

Develop templates and review contracts for long term energy products

Work closely with policy, growth, and product teams to identify and cultivate new markets

Represent the business vis-à-vis external parties, including regulators and other potential stakeholders

Other responsibilities as required

What you will bring

JD from an accredited law school

Membership in the California Bar and/or Texas Bar is preferred

5+ years of related work experience, ideally including time in the energy services industry

Experience with broad range of relevant disciplines, including project financing, energy regulatory compliance, transactions, corporate finance, corporate governance, joint ventures, venture capital, arbitration, internal investigations, employment matters, intellectual property, consumer protection, privacy and data governance, and cybersecurity

Strong familiarity with energy law and utility regulation

Familiarity with Master Purchase Power Agreements via EEI and WSPP is a plus

Exceptional judgment, appropriately balancing risk with corporate objectives

High degree of business acumen

Ability to work on several projects simultaneously with tight deadlines

Willingness and desire to roll up sleeves and get stuff done

Ability to effectively interact with, influence and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders

Strong analytical and problem-resolution skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Comfort working in a fast-paced and dynamic, new industry
