About the Role

We are growing fast, with a team based in the US and The Netherlands and are at an exciting crossroad, being a registered broker-dealer and looking to grow into adjacent new business development opportunities. We are therefore looking for a General Counsel, who will lead Secfi into this exciting scale-up phase. You will provide expert and strategic legal advice to management and set internal governance policies. You are customer-focused, entrepreneurial, and a collaborative thought leader. This position is based in San Francisco and as a member of the Management Team, you will directly report to the CEO.

Responsibilities:

Provide sound legal advice to support business decisions for Secfi globally

Work cross-functionally where you proactively identify potential legal and regulatory issues and translate these into actionable solutions to allow the business to thrive

Lead in setting up & negotiating key partnership agreements

Overseeing & drafting relevant filings and other documents in need of legal/compliance reviews in cooperation with the relevant teams

Support in interactions with the SEC, FINRA and other regulatory authorities

Interface with and manage outside counsel

Work on many exciting company wide projects

Core Qualifications:

Ability to practice law in California and/or New York

10+ years of experience in the legal field, preferably working in the financial/banking services space, and/or tech space

Expertise in Corporate/Securities Laws, financial services - regulatory, compliance, transactional, capital markets, broker-dealer finance, asset management, etc.

Humble and self-starter with exceptional interpersonal skills

Strong communication and team collaboration skills

Commercial and flexible mindset

Ability and passion to scale with the company

Willingness to travel to our Amsterdam office

Bonus Qualifications:

Experience in high growth VC backed Fintech companies

Experience in Fund Management environments

Exposure to European jurisdictions

High Interest in/exposure to Tax Law

Strong understanding of equity compensation

Solid understanding of technology and working with product/engineering teams
