General Counsel

Location: Lombard, IL

This position is the top legal and compliance position for the Dearborn Group companies which consists of Dearborn Life Insurance Company, Dearborn National Life Insurance Company of NY, Dental Network of America and DenteMax. The Dearborn Group companies are subsidiaries of Health Care Service Corporation, a Mutual Legal Reserve Company that offer life, dental, and disability insurance product offerings. This position is responsible for managing and directing the legal, compliance, regulatory, product filing, and industry relationships for the Dearborn Group companies. The general counsel is a member of the Dearborn Group senior executive team and is the corporate secretary responsible for management and governance of the Dearborn Group boards of directors.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

* Law Degree and member in good standing of the local state bar.

* 15 years legal experience with direct experience in group/individual life insurance.

* Demonstrated leadership responsibility and advancement in responsibilities and job scope.

* Knowledge of group insurance product lines including life insurance, disability insurance and dental.

* Working knowledge of regulations impacting group insurance such as ERISA, ACA, privacy laws and network regulations.

* Contacts within the regulatory and legal community.

* Major areas of concentration include: senior executive team, board governance, management of all legal issues and risks, management of compliance team responsible for group and individual products in 49 states, and legal interface with Health Care Service Corporation.
