Lasko Products, an industry leader in the design and manufacture of portable fans and heaters for over 100 years, is seeking a General Counsel to join our team. The General Counsel will provide comprehensive management of all legal matters impacting the company, litigation and claims, review and approval of contracts, labor and employment, and overall legal risk management across all areas of Lasko’s business. He/she will serve as a hands-on legal advisor, providing results-oriented and business-minded counsel to the CEO, Executive Management and the Board of Directors, as well as providing critical counsel and advice to management and staff. The position reports to the CEO.

Primary Responsibilities

Provide experienced commercial and business judgment to the Executive Leadership team and operating unit executives, assisting them in risk assessment and mitigation throughout all the company’s business operations.

Oversee, manage and advise the company on the status of all litigation, settlement negotiation and dispute resolution activities.

Identify, analyze and interpret contract issues, laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and other complex written materials impacting the business, and provide expert advice and recommendations with the development of corporate decisions and policies.

Advise on environmental and safety matters globally.

Act as the primary interface between the company and law firms in environmental, employment, product liability and litigation matters pending in courts and administrative agencies

Draft, review and negotiate a wide variety of commercial, customer and supplier contracts and agreements.

Manage and oversee intellectual property, trademark renewals, and patent maintenance fees and any matters related to litigation.

Manage and mitigate legal risks through the creation of policies, processes, and procedures based on the latest legal trends and developments designed to avoid risk and promote business initiatives effectively.

Review and advise on compliance with all laws and regulations that apply to the business, including safety, products performance claims and federal and local labor requirements related to both unionized and non-unionized environments.

Participate in and support the company’s merger and acquisition activity, engaging the Board, external counsel and other constituents in various activities related to the successful closing and integration of transactions.

Identify, select and manage external counsel partnerships. Provide guidance and support relationships with the company’s insurance brokers and other key constituents as required.

Extreme attention to detail and high level of accuracy

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Requirements

Juris Doctor (JD) from a top-tier law school

Admitted as a member in good standing in the Pennsylvania Bar Association

Approximately 15 years of legal experience, ideally gained at a highly regarded law firm coupled with successful in-house General Counsel or Assistant General Counsel experience in a fast-paced, complex and multi-business unit and multi-location organization.

Strong knowledge of laws, regulations, industry guidelines and other requirements relevant to consumer products/durables industry including CPSC, EPA and regulatory testing, i.e., UL, Intertek

Direct experience handling product liability claims. Experience with contract law, and employment law matters.

Fast paced-consumer goods (durables) experience a plus.

Experience negotiating a wide variety of complex commercial agreements and contracts.

In depth experience providing counsel and guidance on labor and employment issues; Collective Bargaining knowledge a plus.

Admitted as a member in good standing in the Pennsylvania Bar Association
