Schillings is looking for a full-time, In-House General Counsel to optimize our organizational efficiency regarding legal matters. The primary job responsibility is to help the Company meet its business objectives, remain in compliance with laws, rules and regulations applicable to the company’s businesses. Ideal candidates will have basic experience with liens and contract law. In addition, one must be able to provide legal counsel on a multitude of Company-related business issues, including insurance matters and employee relations.

This opportunity is based out of our St. John, Indiana location and must be licensed in both Indiana and Illinois. Local candidates preferred. Excellent benefits and an outstanding opportunity to join a growing, family-owned company!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Advise upper management and ownership on various matters such as legal rights, and new and existing laws.

Managing the company’s legal matters and maintain current knowledge of the law in areas of special interest to the Company.

Examining and creating draft agreements to minimize risk.

Maintaining knowledge of company’s operations and legal documents.

Conducting legal research and reviewing company's litigation strategy pertaining to legal actions.

Appropriately identify and analyze legal issues with an understanding of how to appropriately balance risk and the Company’s ability to pursue its business interests.

Base your decision-making process on ethics and integrity.

Other duties, as assigned.

Additional qualifications include some or all of the following:

Law Degree.

Licensed to practice law in both Indiana and Illinois.

3+ years of legal experience, preferably in a field with an emphasis in business.

Basic experience in lien law and contract law.

Proficiency using Microsoft Office tools.

Be a self-starter with strong attention to detail.

Exhibit strong interpersonal skills and have high integrity.

Ability to adapt well to change, multi-task, make effective decisions in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong organizational, analytical, and critical-thinking skills, as well as the ability to identify and manage issues.

Knowledge of statutes, rules and regulations pertaining to businesses.

Proficient understanding of business sensitivities and confidentiality.
