We're looking for our next General Counsel to come and help us keep the internet safe for kids. SuperAwesome powers powers the kids’ digital media ecosystem. Our platform is used by hundreds of companies to enable over twelve billion kid-safe digital transactions across advertising, community and parental consent every month. SuperAwesome has pioneered the kidtech sector, delivering engagement with the under-13 audience built around privacy and responsibility.

Responsibilities

Provide expert legal advice to the global management and the Board on contracts, legal risks, compliance and business terms.

Ownership of all areas including IP protection, commercial contracts, employment, secretarial/Board, litigation, corporate governance, fundraising, M&A and shareholder matters.

Determine the strategy and resources required to provide best-in-class in-house legal services to the business in its core geographies; oversee the design, growth and management of the in-house legal team, including senior counsel and paralegals.

Responsible for the selection and management of specialist external legal advisers with the objective of maximising access to expert advice whilst minimising costs.

Stay up to date on EMEA and US national, state and local laws and regulations that may impact the company’s business.

Responsible for all commercial legal work, including drafting and evolving commercial contract templates for ad sales, software licences, publisher services and other agreements.

Provide timely and efficient support to internal teams on all legal matters including contracts, employment matters, risk and compliance assessments, and advice on product or marketing initiatives.

Work closely with the Chief Privacy Officer and the CISO/DPO to support a coherent, best-in-class approach to data privacy compliance and information management across the company and its products and services.

Requirements

Qualified lawyer with demonstrable experience building and growing a legal function and managing a team, gained in a pragmatic commercial environment; MBA or MSc in Business Administration a plus; CIPP/privacy certifications a plus.

Must have significant experience gained in a law firm and/or preferably in-house; experience in digital media and/or Internet technology and services.

Knowledge and understanding of data privacy legislation and advertising self-regulation regimes, including COPPA, CARU, CAP/ASA, GDPR, UK Data Protection Act.

Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, along with the ability to communicate effectively with others at all levels of the organisation orally and in writing; excellent contract structuring and drafting skills.

Strong negotiating skills with both legal and financial/commercial issues.

Ability to work independently with little supervision.

Highest degree of professional ethics and integrity.
